After this weekend’s visit to La “Tea” Da, I am convinced La “Tea” Da is one of the most unique and lovely places in all of Staten Island. Once an antique shop, this country cottage has been converted into a charming tea room by its owner, Toyka Lewis. She affectionately calls it her “labor of love”. Looking around, I was admiring all the pretty details designed specifically for this space in Victorian style. The lovely table linens, the crochet napkin holders, the pink crystal chandelier adorned with tea cups, all very sweet and all hand made by Toyka and her mother.
Once inside, you can’t help but feel a bit like Alice entering a fantasy world, about to host her very own tea party. “I wanted to create a whimsical place where people can wind down, relax and drink tea with family and friends, enjoying quality time together” said Toyka. The result is a dream like atmosphere infused with special details that charm their way into your heart and keep you coming back for more. The tea cottage often hosts birthday parties, bridal teas, baby showers, etiquette classes, anniversary parties, family gatherings and seasonal events. A beautiful yard in the back, shaded by 100-year old tree, completed with a hanging chandelier and a custom crafted one-of-a-kind doll house creates another perfect setting for a garden party.
La “Tea” Da is where the refreshing hospitality of the owner meets the gorgeous vintage cottage leaving you with unforgettable moments and memories.
A new pizza chain has arrived on Staten Island. Locate at 1743 RICHMOND ROAD, Little Caesars has opened its doors to hungry customers. They claim to have the best value for the money, and at $5 for a large pepperoni or cheese pie, I can see why. The freshly baked pizza pies are always available in their “Hot-n-Ready” section along with Italian Cheese Bread, Caesar Wings and Crazy Bread. The place is bright and clean, the staff is all smiles, and you can be in & out with your order in a flash. Very convenient for people on the go, kids playdates and for those “just don’t wanna cook” days.
It was a hot and steamy night at Fushimi Japanese Cuisine and Lounge in Staten Island, as the single ladies gathered for a live, man auction. The firefighters from the official 2012 FDNY Calendar of Heroes were turning up the heat and loosing their shirts for a good cause. Virgin Mobile’s “Get Yourself a Man” National Campaign along with z100 and Fushimi Lounge, all came together for this charity event. All the proceeds went to the FDNY Foundation which focuses on educating the public about the dangers of fire and offers safety tips. Calvin Yum, a manager at Fushimi Japanese Cuisine & Lounge, says “We like to give back to the community, we’ve done many charity events in the past and are honored to host this fun event tonight”.
Girls were bidding on the hot eligible bachelors for a chance to win a date and some exciting prizes such as NYC Spirit Cruise for two, Virgin Mobile phone and $100 gift card from Visa.
“A lot of my friends are firefighters and police officers on the front lines, so I was excited to host this event here at Fushimi, we knew it would be a success” said Skeery Jones from z100. Once the man started strutting their stuff the crowd went wild, the energy was high and the girls were screaming “somebody call 911, there’s a fire over here!” At the end, five lucky girls went home with a fine firefighter on their arm.
If you live in New York City, chances are you love sushi as much as I do. Fushimi Japanese Cuisine & Lounge on Staten Island is one of the favorite places to go when you’re in the mood for some delicious sushi. The restaurant offers sleek and upscale decor, a romantic outside terrace, Asian inspired entrées, and a sushi bar where you can watch the sushi chefs at work while sipping on one of the signature cocktails. This trendy lounge is great for an after-work drink or a night out with your friends.
