2011 Winter Holiday Guide!

Here’s our list of holiday-related events happening around Staten Island this December, 2011:

  1. Christmas In Richmond Town

    It’s Christmas season in the Village! The Historic Richmond Town welcomes you to take an adventure through the holiday-decorated streets, hear the Christmas carols, take a ride on a horse-drawn wagon, watch the traditional tree lighting, take a picture with Santa or listen to a storytelling session. Inside the Courthouse you will find home-baked goodies along with other holiday items for sale.

    When: December 4th, Sun. From 10AM – 5PM
    Location: 441 Clarke Avenue
    Tickets: Admission is free to the tree lighting ceremony. Horse-drawn wagon rides are $2.

  2. Candlelight Tours

    Take a journey through three-hundred years of tradition and discover the history of Christmas. The village will be illuminated by candles, oil lamps and the warmth of a flickering hearth.

    When: December 10th and 17th

    Tickets: Adults: $22 / SIHS Members: $20 / Children under 12: $10

  3. Annual Tree Lighting and Holiday Party at Snug Harbor

    Snug Harbor Cultural Center and Botanical Garden invites you to a Holiday Party and Food Drive. Featuring live music, dancing and snacks.

    When: December 3rd, Sat. From 5PM – 9PM
    Location: 1000 Richmond Terrace
    Tickets: Admission to a Holiday Party $22

  4. A New Brighton Holiday Stroll

    Enjoy a festive walk in the neighborhood of New Brighton where you will find homemade goods such as art work, jewelry and other one-of-a-kind gifts. The day will end with a tree lighting and a holiday party at Snug Harbor. You can read about it in more detail here.

    When: December 3rd, Sat. From 10AM – 5PM
    Location: The Holiday Stroll begins at Christ Church (76 Franklin Ave) for St. Nicholas Fair and ends at Snug Harbor.

  5. Breakfast With Santa

    Santa and Mrs. Claus will make an appearance. There will be arts and crafts as well as a white elephant table. DJ will provide music. Call to pre-register. Bring your camera!

  6. 2nd Annual Christmas Tree and Menorah Lighting Ceremony

    This fun, festive event will feature: DJ Frank Manzo from FM entertainment, carolers and dancers. Hot cholcoate and cookies will be served. Please bring an unopened toy for a less-fortunate child in the local community.

    When: December 4th, Sun. at 4:30PM
    Location: Pleasant Plains Plaza (Lady Victory Statue) at the intersection of Bloomingdale and Amboy Roads.

  7. Brunch With Santa

    Bring your kids to enjoy brunch with Santa and make a holiday ornament to take home. Bring your camera to capture the memories! Pre-Registration required.

    When: December 18th, Sun. From 10AM – 11:30AM (for kids ages 2 to 5) and from 12PM – 1:30PM (for kids ages 6 to 9)

  8. Beastly Breakfast With Santa

    Visit the Staten Island Zoo to have breakfast with Santa. Included is the morning tour that will take you behind the scenes where you will learn what zoo animals eat and how the meals are prepared daily. Now it’s your chance to get a peek at the life behind the glass. Pre-Registration required.

    When: December 17th, Sat. From 8:30AM – 10:30AM

    Tickets: Non-members: $24 / Members: $20 /Admission is free for children 3 years old and under.

  9. Annual Grand Illumination

    The Conference House Association invites you to the Annual Grand Illumination. Join in singing Christmas carols, enjoy free hot cider, cookies & a special gift! Dress warmly, as the festivities take place outdoors.

  10. Colonial Christmas at the Conference House

    The Conference House, a historic museum in Tottenville, is turning into Santa’s Workshop with its annual Colonial Christmas fair. Children will visit with Father Christmas and receive a gift, while adults can enjoy the marketplace. Free hot apple cider and cookies will be served to all.

    When: December 11th, Sun. From 10AM – 4PM
    Location: The Conference House Museum at 298 Satterlee Street
    Tickets: $3 donation

  11. Angelina’s First Annual Tree Lighting Ceremony

    This even will be filled with fun, food and free giveaways. There will also be many local vendors participating in various activities. Support Toys for Tots program by bringing a new, unwrapped toy to this event.

  12. Holiday Bazaar

    Are you wondering what to buy for your children, parents or friends for the holidays? Come to Bernikow Jewish Community Center and enjoy the holiday bazaar. The fair will feature fine craft-works by local artisans, jewelry, handbags and much more. There will be a door prize in addition to raffles for many wonderful items.

    When: December 11th, Sun. From 10AM – 4PM

  13. Westerleigh Park Winter Festival and Tree Lighting

    Come out for the Christmas tree lighting and enjoy the music provided by the Port Richmond High School Marching Band. Santa Claus will be there to see the children. Refreshments will be served.

  14. Enrichment Through The Arts

    Enrichment Through The Arts’ live theater, music, puppetry and dance performances entertain while developing an appreciation for the arts and enhancing the educational process in children. Below is the list of their holiday performances:

    Holiday Tales – A musical multicultural collection of Holiday Tales from different cultures including Christmas, Kwanzaa and Hanukkah. “Holiday Tales” is the perfect gift of theatre to celebrate the Winter Holidays!

    The Nutcracker – A Christmas classic brought to life with dazzling choreography, sets and costumes.

    Twas the Night Before Christmas – A beloved traditional story comes alive on stage through musical performances.

    Santa Claus Meets The Wicked Wizard – This fun filled action-packed musical comedy will become your favorite holiday treat!

    The Shoemaker and The Elves – A heartwarming, holiday musical! The story of a poor Shoemaker and the magical elves who show him the true meaning of The Holiday!

    Christmas Carol – Perhaps the best loved holiday story of all time, this adaptation of Dickens’ classic is particularly suited to children.

  15. The Christmas Show

    The Christmas Show at the St. George Theater is a magical experience for the entire family. This family-friendly musical has songs of the season and scenes from Santa’s Workshop, Central Park, the World’s Largest Toy Store, Lincoln Center, Rainbow Room and so much more! Bring your camera and snap pictures during the meet and greet with the cast in the lobby.

    When: December 16th at 7PM. December 17th at 3PM and 7PM. December 18th at 3PM and 7PM.
    Location: 35 Hyatt Street
    Tickets: $10, $20, $30, $40. Sunday Night Special: All tickets $10 and $20.

  16. The Nutcracker

    The Staten Island Ballet presents The Nutcracker, with a magically expanding Christmas tree, more than 30 professional company dancers and 50 students of the Staten Island Ballet School.

    When: December 17th, Sat. at 3PM and 7PM. December 18th, Sun. at 1PM and 5PM.

  17. Annual Live Nativity Event at Salem Church

    Salem Church‘s annual production returns this year. The outdoor Nativity scene will be on display with its costumed actors, live animals, Christmas caroling and activities for children. Free cookies and hot chocolate for all guests.

    When: December 2nd and 9th from 7PM – 9PM. December 3rd and 10th from 6PM – 8PM.

  18. Holiday Events at the Staten Island Children’s Museum

    Hershel and the Hanukkah Goblins – enjoy a live musical performance of this children’s holiday classic!
    When: December 11th, Sun. at 3PM

    Christmas Sing-a-Long – enjoy sounds of the season, learn new songs and join in making music as Patrick (the host) gets you in the mood for the Holidays!
    When: December 18th, Sun. at 2PM

    Kwanzaa Stories and Songs with Robert “Babaloo” Basey – Staten Island’s favorite storyteller brings Kwanzaa to life!

    New Year’s Eve Celebration – Kid Style! – Join Patrick and Family for a rocking New Year’s Eve (day) celebration!
    When: December 31st, Sat. From 1PM – 3PM

    Tickets: The events are free with the $6 paid general admission / Free for Members

  19. Holidays at the Staten Island Mall

    Visit the mall and see all the beautiful holiday decorations and do some shopping of course.

    Photos With Santa – Santa has made his way from the North Pole and is ready to greet children of all ages.

    St. Nick’s Pet Pics – Bring your favorite pet for a portrait with Santa.
